One of the original Bay Area Thrashers are back, and are they Pissed!! Gary Holt and the Exodus boys have returned with a new disc, Shovel Headed Kill Machine, and it's good to hear that they have stayed true to their Metal roots!! From the first notes of CD opener, "Raze", you know that Exodus means business, and the Kill Machine has been set loose.
"Deathamphetamine" is the second track of this 10 song disc (and my favorite song) and the metal here is fast and furious. Joining the Exodus fold is the one & only, drummer extraordaire, Paul Bostaph ( ex-Slayer, ex-Forbidden, ex-Systematic). Bostaph's impact on the new music is just undeniable. Bostaph has been a huge part of shaping every band that he's been a part of, and Exodus is no exception. Stand out tracks like, "I Am Abomination", "Now Thy Death Day Come", and the title track, "Shovel Headed Kill Machine", are instant classics.
Exodus, like other '80's Thrashers still putting out new material like Testament, Overkill & Slayer, are still delivering the goods and refuse to compromise. Shovel Headed Kill Machine is just a great Metal record. And Metal is alive and well in the "city by the Bay". I guess Metallica doesn't live there anymore! And I know I'm not the only one that wishes that they did.
