Love Cannot Bear, the new CD by guitar genius, Robert Fripp, is an album of Soundscapes made up of improvised guitar solos played through a bevy of guitar processors. Love Cannot Bear produces an audible imagery that makes the listener feel as though they are being taken on a wild ride through the outer stratosphere and beyond. No King Crimson stuff here, just Robert Fripp indulging into the void, being his Frippertronic self. Set your mind to receptive and let go.
This recording has been recorded at Live events during times as far back as 1983 through to 2005, all around the USA. Fripp does not disappoint, and as seen by the droves of fans that caught him opening for Porcupine Tree during the summer of 2005, his solo Soundscapes material is quite interesting and well received. Highlights of this CD are the NYC recorded "Love Cannot Bear " and "Acceptance-Affirmation". The latter being recorded directly to an Apple Powerbook! Fripp never seems to stay off of the cutting edge!
For more than 35 years, Robert Fripp has continued to push the envelope in Prog Rock, solo material, and being a guitar virtuoso. Love Cannot Bear is pure Sonic Wallpaper, and a beautiful scenic trip that you'll find yourself being disappointed when it's over. Fripp is one of the few musicians that has be able to walk the fine line of virtuosity and innovation and still retain its listenability.
