Hensley, Ken, and John Wetton: More Than Conquerers

Essentially a Uriah Heep doppelganger, the impromptu Hensley/Wetton band turn out to be a shockingly lively and loud alternative to the real thing, both ex-Heepsters providing class vocals - Heep like Byron, Wetton like his smoky self - on a grab bag of solo, Heep and Asia tracks, best choice, although rendered too funky, being under-rated metal rocker 'One Way Or Another'. The two got together for a Heep convention (The Magician's Birthday Party), and fortunately for us, cobbled up a full-bodied hard rock backing band to make these songs sing as loudly and freely and regally as the two consummate vocalists at the fore. Bonus material includes three live-setting (one lip-synced in a candle-lit bar) "promo" vids plus a real production video for Wetton's 'Battle Lines', as well as a 10 shot photo gallery. The set closes with an oddly impatient, hurried rendition of huge Asia hit 'Heat Of The Moment'; pretty cool but really it's the multi-talented Hensley that is a magnet for the ears and eyes, making 'Return To Fantasy', 'July Morning' and 'Easy Livin'' sound more Heep than the present Heep.
