Destruktor: Nuclear Storm (EP)

From Australia hails the epic black & death metal sounds of Destruktor. This short 5 song EP kicks off with a symphonic and majestic sounding instrumental into, before the manic black metal blast of "Fight Like the Devil", complete with shrieking vocals and tremelo picked guitar riffs. The title track then changes things drastically, as the band goes for a speedy thrash/death metal dige with heavy and grinding riffs and deep growling vocals. A similar style follows suit on the raging "Strive to Conquer", a serious 80's styled thrash monster with gutteral vocals, speedy guitar riffs, and speed-of-light drum work. The band goes back to crushing black metal on the closing track "Justice Unleased", a song that never lets up pounding the listener into submission.

These guys show some promise, but I was left wondering exactly what style this band really wants to play. Personally, I think they have a better handle on the heavier death metal style, as when they switch to the black style it sounds a little forced. It should be interesting to see how they evolve from here.
