While never as popular as thrash legends Metallica, Megadeth, Exodux, and Anthrax, Germany's Destruction, along with Kreator, have continued to release quality 80's styled metal for many years that has continued to influence a host of up and coming thrash acts. Produced by Hypocrisy's Peter Tagtgren at the famous Abyss Studio's, Inventor of Evil sounds like it could have come from 1987, with Destruction's trademark mix of speed and and savage aggression still in fine form.
While there's nothing new or groundbreaking on Inventor of Evil, damn if you don't find yourself banging your head and thrashing to tracks like "Soul Collector" and "Alliance of Hellhoundz", a tune that also features guest singers like Paul DiAnno, Tagtgren, Shagrath, Doro, Bjorn 'Speed' Strid, and many more joining Schmier, Mike, and Marc for an insance metal rave-up. There's also the brutal stomp of "Chosen Ones", complete with killer guitar work from Mike and evil shouts from Schmier, and the atmospheric metal of the mini-epic "Seeds of Hate", which has riffs so thick they remind of Slayer at times.
Inventor of Evil is a strong reminder that Destruction are still alive and well and ready to kick some serious ass. Twenty years might seem like a long time to be toiling about on the thrash scene, but these guys haven't lost a step and have released one of their best CD's in years. Check it out.
