Nashville Pussy: Get Some!

Nashville Pussy's latest release Get Some! is a total in your face Hard Rock experience. This first release in 3 years also features a new band member in Karen Cuda (bass/backing vocals). She joins the lineup of Blaine Cartwright (lead vox, guitar), Ruyter Suys (lead guitar, backing vox) and Jeremy Thompson (drums) for a very enjoyable album. I had heard the band before but never really followed them which made this the first time I sat down and focused on them. I have to admit that I enjoyed this CD very much for it rocks from beginning to end with a basic groove that truly works for the band. There is nothing over the top or too experimental in this music just your standard chords that worked so well for so many bands over the years. As a matter of fact there are a number of instances were Blaine sounds almost like Alice Cooper and I can think of worse comparisons to draw. There is also a bit of a "southern-fried" feel to the record and the additional female vocal adds a nice appeal to the already driving rhythms. Visually the presence of these hard rocking ladies might add to a fun stage performance and antics that play off the name and tunes.

Right off the bat the CD kicks you with "Pussy Time" and uses some very tongue in cheek lyrics such as "you better eat it before it gets cold" to make sure you are paying attention. The track "Come On Come On" is a perfect beer-drinking bar song type of anthem and if you hear it you will probably agree with me. There were more that I enjoyed but the reasons are simply due to them rocking and for the most part the CD is loaded with tracks like that. There are far more good tracks than sub-par ones. The band also delivers a cool rendition of the Ace Frehley track "Snowblind" (from his solo album of 1978). It's done a little edgier than the Space Ace version so offers fans of the tracks a nice new take on it. I have to say that I can recommend this CD to those that enjoy a little more Rock than Metal and definitely those who enjoy music like label mates Beautiful Creatures and SPV Records Monster Magnet. Go on and get some, you know you wanna.
