Ambarchi, Oren: Triste

I have been reviewing quite a few CDs lately, and maybe I am jaded by all the potential that I have been hearing that makes me feel that pretentious noise, guised as art, is a waste of my time. I like experimentation as much as the next person, but Oren Ambarchi takes it one step too far. The CD is basically his playing one note at a time through distortion and other settings and letting the note ring for 2 or 3 seconds. And not only does he feel that this warrants a CD, he then remakes the only two songs on the CD to pretend this is a full length release.

I found nothing in this music to inspire or entertain. It reminded me of the Broadway play Art where the people fight over a canvas painted white. If you want something for the sake of its artistic value, I guess Triste is for you, but if you want musical integrity and creativity, skip this one.
