Brain Buckit: Brain Buckit

Brain Buckit plays funky rock-n-roll in the style of Boxing Gandhis and The Downchild Blues Band. Although there are many jam-band themes that run through these songs, this is much more of a rock band than Phish. Brain Buckit contains sax, trombone, trumpet, and layered keyboards, that give the music a taste towards Little Feet, but the song writing is much more sedate.

Lyricly, songs like "Passion Fruit", "Pink Elephant" and "Run Rabbit / The Chase" are fairly silly. Unlike some bands, like Trout Fishing In America, that do this on purpose, there really isn't a taste of sarcasm or creativity that makes silly lyrics appealing. The remake of "Cross Town Traffic" and "Let The Boogie Loose" make me think of Chicago when they were grasping for anything that would sell an album, very cliché. "Sweet Tequila" and "Leavin' Tonight" are the closest to unique sounding songs and are the highlights of the CD for me.

I can recommend Brain Buckit to anyone looking for a party CD, something that sounds fun and rockin when you don't actually have to listen too closely. This band has excellent performers, with only average song writers. Because they wish to fit into that jam-band mode, it is very possible that live versions of these songs take on a whole new experience.
