November: November

With a mixture of psychedelic and progressive rock, The Netherlands' November has released a demo CD of dark, haunting, music. With swirling Hammond and Piano mixed with jazz-tinged rhythms, the 5 songs on November give us a good glimpse into what could be an exciting band to watch in the future.

"Afterglow" leads off things and is a dark, brooding piece, with a guitar solo that shows promise, but isn't as crisp as you would like to hear. It is a solo section instead of the instrumental climax of the piece, which after the solo, ends with a simple piano line. Bass and Drums drive the second song "Slipping Through Our Hands", which slips off on many directions and returns with unique ideas, reminding me of RPWL. "Star Of The Fields" sounds like Blackfield and is the most accessible of the songs on this demo.

November shows lots of promise. The songwriting is a little tame, but not that unexpected for a demo. The singing is melodic and the rhythm section could be dominating with a little more room to breathe in the songs. All-and-all another band to add to your list to look for once they move towards full fledge production, with hopefully cleaner, crisper guitar work.
