Bardowell, Philip: In the Cut

Philip Bardowell??? Who he? Don't feel bad, the name meant nothing to me either, however, my memory was tweaked when I read the info kit. Philip is currently known as the lead singer for Unruly Child, however his history includes stints in Magdalen (House of Lords spin-off) and way back as lead vocalist in Criss, with Peter Criss and Ace Frehley.

In the Cut is an assemblage of songs written by the best AOR songwriters (including Jim Peterik and Curt Cuomo) ably produced and recorded by Swedish studio ace and sometime Toto'er, Tommy Denander, guitars. Philip's excellent voice is part Lou Gramm, part Steve Perry with a dash of Bobby Kimball thrown in. In other words, perfect for an AOR project and market. If you are a fan of this market and particularly say Survivor and the softer side of Foreigner, this will easily rank as a four star plus album for you. To me it is a tad too bland although expertly crafted and performed so my rating is less.
