Operatika are a four piece power metal band featuing crushing neo-classical guitars, plenty of keyboards, and "operatic" female vocals. This four song EP Dreamworld shows great promise, and while the initial comparisons to Nightwish will certainly pop up, Operatika are heavier and less symphonic, relying more on shredding guitar work (courtesy of Bill Visser) than other female fronted bands in the genre. Slava Popova has a strong voice, perhaps a tad too over the top at times, but she compliments the songs well with her soaring vocals. Songs like the rocking title track, and "The Calling" have the right amount of progressive keyboards, catchy vocal harmonies, crisp rhythm work and flashy solos to please just about any power & prog metal fan. Apparently the band is working on a full length release for 2006, curiously enough that will not feature any of the songs on this EP, so it might be a good idea to pick this up now while you wait for the official release from the band. Judging by the quality of this EP, I'm thinking that big things lie ahead for Operatika.
