Lunn, Tony: The Last Days Of Diresville

Tony Lunn is a singer-songwriter in the vein of David Baerwald. His roots-based style doesn't have the edge of Dave Alvin or the intelligence of The BoDeans, but if you are fans of these bands, this could be considered to fit in your collection. On some songs, Lunn's vocals are a little reminiscent of Ray Wilson on his solo effort Changes, on others it has the countrified snarl of Greg Keelor.

The ten songs on The Last Days Of Diresville do not stray too far from the Americana sound made popular by bands like The Blasters and The Jayhawks. The piano of Matt Denny adds a nice touch to the opener "Change" but then disappears. "Try" and "Say Goodbye" are good songs that offer nothing new to the genre but are still worth listening to. "Welcome To The Past" and "Snake Knife Drown" could be on any BoDeans CD and you would hardly notice it wasn't written by He&He. "Fair Trade" reminds me of the great Canadian band "Blue Rodeo".

Tony Lunn offers songs that fit nicely in the Americana-genre. If you remember the great Welcome to the Boomtown by David and David, you might want to give this CD a try. Lunn gave us what we expected on The Last Days Of Diresville. Let's hope his second CD will surprise us a little.
