I'll say this much about Detroit's Overloaded: The band may consist of five young men who are angry – angry at the environment, angry at the anti-rock 'n' roll establishment and especially angry at former lovers – but at least these guys channel that aggression into accessible songs that seethe with rawness and swagger. Think Sammy Hagar, pissed off and fronting – oh, I don't know – Guns N' Roses. Singer Chris Gillen's throat must be made of leather, and a stabbing dual-guitar attack injects these songs with good ol' Motor City madness. I question, however, the strategy behind releasing a seven-song debut CD that clocks in at shorter than 25 minutes and sells for 13 bucks. This should have either been billed as an EP and sold for less than $10 or expanded into a full-length CD. On the basis of the songs on Hail the Kingdom (especially, "Feeling Overloaded" and "Where Are You Running To?"), I'm sure Overloaded has some more solid material in its arsenal. Why hold back now?
