House of Lords: Full Tilt Overdrive

With the same lineup as their previous 2022 release Saints and Sinners, which is now evidently better blended, more focused and ambitious, House of Lords unleashes a hard-hitting, melodic rock masterpiece with Full Tilt Overdrive. This album embodies the essence of the genre, blending heavy metal tendencies, infectious hooks, and memorable choruses. The band's signature sound, honed since the Giuffria era and refined through James Christian's tenure, remains steadfast and strong.

Jimi Bell's scorching guitar work and Christian's pristine vocals shine throughout. The interplay between guitars and keys, courtesy of the great Mark Mangold, is effortless, while the rhythm section, comprising James Christian himself and Swedish drummer Johan Koleberg, delivers a modern, energetic pulse.

The album's first half is remarkably strong, with standout tracks like "Crowded Room," "Bad Karma," "Cry of The Wicked� which is one of my favorites, the title track "Full Tilt Overdrive," "Taken the Fall," and the heavy rocker and hypnotic "You're Cursed." These songs showcase the band's mastery of hard melodic rock.

The second half takes a more atmospheric turn, beginning with the dark song "Not the Enemy" and the power ballad "Don't Wanna Say Goodbye." While not as explosive as the first half, tracks like "Still Believe" and "State of Emergency" demonstrate the band's versatility and ability to craft catchy, melodic songs with substance. The closer, "Castles High," is a mini-epic that echoes the band's classic metal roots, complete with sweeping synths and guitar heroics.

Full Tilt Overdrive is an essential listen for hard rock and melodic rock enthusiasts. House of Lords proves their relevance and skill, delivering an album that's both nostalgic and contemporary. As always, highly recommended… cheers!
