We Follow The Earth: Extinct

We Follow the Earth’s 2nd album Extinct is a crushing affair which should hit the spot for fans of punishingly heavy Doom and Sludge metal styles.

We Follow The Earth is a project consisting of brothers Matthew and Robert Crotts. Matthew writes and performs all the music/vocals, while Robert writes the concept/lyrics. The material on the sophomore album is an evolution from the more atmospheric vibes of their debut Lightbearer.

The new album is a 6-track concept album full of ‘low and slow’ numbers with abrasive vocals. The album tells the story of a Cyclops chieftain discovering that his entire tribe has been murdered and vowing revenge. The guitar and bass tones are really heavy, and in a subgenre where tone is such a hallmark of the sound, I have no doubt this album will be well-received by those who take the time to listen to it.

If you’re a fan of bands like Conan, Neurosis and Crowbar then you should find something to enjoy on this album. My Favourite track on the release is "The Ruined", as it contains a mellow interlude that helps to offset the otherwise constant bludgeoning of slow and straightforward riffing and gruff vocal delivery.
