The Fearless Flyers: IV

How about some funk? A new live release from The Fearless Flyers recorded live at the Blue Note in New York City. A six-song EP chock full of tight and tasty guitar-driven instrumentals. The band features guitarists Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy) and Cory Wong, along with bassist Joe Dart (Vulfpeck) and drummer Nate Smith. Absolutely infectious music that will have you moving and grooving. I love how they just seem to lock in and then turn up the heat during “Patrouille de France�. This track builds and builds the intensity, and getting to hear the crowd begin to react seems to fire the guitars into another level around the 5-minute mark. The band makes a perfect landing at the end of the song, again getting the audience’s full attention.

I almost thought I was hearing a new Steely Dan track during the opening of “Frecce Tricolori�. The interplay is terrific, once I put this on; I want to play it over and over again. “Snowbirds� is my favorite track, once this train gets a rollin’, you can’t stop it. I love both the rhythm and lead guitar work, and it doesn’t get more solid than Dart and Smith driving these tunes.

Last year I had the pleasure of seeing Cory Wong, Mark Lettieri Group, and Snarky Puppy, all were fantastic. You can check The Fearless Flyers out on YouTube, this is definitely a band that thrives on the stage, so much power and energy comes from them and the music. The only complaint here is I want 10 songs instead of 6.
