Vincent, Michael: Electric Fox

Michael Vincent is a San Francisco Bay area singer/songwriter who is certainly known more locally than nationally. He has been around for decades having released his first album in 1993 titled Lines And Wonders. He has recently put out his seventh album Electric Fox, released in 2023. His backing band known as U No Who consists of Anthony Fulgar (drums), Scott Warren (lead guitar), and David Mendoza (bass and harmony vocals).

This is pretty standard pop rock music with a jangly edge, at times giving the album a Byrds’ feel. The melodies are strong and while Vincent doesn’t have the strongest voice he uses it within the confines of the song, supporting the melodies and giving his songs an endearing, organic quality. There is nothing fabricated here, it is as real as it gets beginning with the rootsy pop of “Together�, followed by the very catchy “Fool, My Eye�, brimming with optimism. The vocals on “The Longest Time� unfortunately suffer from a murky production, but is otherwise pretty catchy, as is “Last Summer�, highlighted with some nice harmony vocals. More catchy numbers include “Living Room� with its melodic guitar rhythms and the jangly pop of “In A Whisper�, a nice mid-tempo ballad.

Electric Fox is a good pop album with eight catchy tracks and while the flashiness is pretty much non-existent, that is exactly what the artist is trying to achieve, in a nice and tidy thirty-three minutes. If so inclined, check out the artist’s Bandcamp link below.
