Between Interval: Legacy

Between Interval is a project developed by Swedish electronic artist Stefan Strand. He began experimenting with electronic sounds at the age of fourteen and has thus far released five solo albums and is also involved in other projects including Sublunar, Monodrive, and Section 9.

On his latest album Legacy, Strand reaches for a trippy, spacey vibe, and that is exactly what we get. Think of ambient, electronic, and space music, with a Tangerine Dream influence, mix it together and you might come up with something like Legacy.

Gentle waves of ambient synths begin the first track “The Tunnel�, the background electronics building ever so slowly, becoming more pronounced and leading into a synthesized groove. The sounds are crisp and clean, and the overall recording quality is excellent. “On Track� begins with dark rumblings, synthesized percussion, and swirling electronics. The shimmering soundscapes and melodic keyboard lines make for a smooth and mesmerizing listen. Echo effects are used particularly well. The trippy and space driven “Accelerant� with its darker textures, the slightly menacing “The Hour Appointed� that has Strand experimenting with field samples and eerie effects, and the sci-fi influenced dark techno of “Septimal Laws", are all cool sounding tracks.

Anyone who appreciates the Berlin School of electronic music like Tangerine Dream should really seek this one out as soon as you can. Legacy earns a well deserved four stars. Released on Spotted Peccary Music.
