Enman, Brent: Retromatic Complete Volumes 1-2-3

Brent Enman is a multi-instrumentalist based out of Windsor, Colorado. I had not heard this musician before until spinning Retromatic Complete Volumes 1-2-3, released in 2022. On the album Enman plays everything himself including guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals.

Enman is good musician and a strong vocalist with most of these tunes resonating within the confines of classic rock. The riffs and vocals are catchy, and some of the melodies will really stick like glue like the innate melodicism of “A Higher Place To Be” with the vocals and riffs supplying an abundance of earworms. “Living In The Dark” is a moody edged mid-tempo rocker where the guitar is turned down a notch, before the big riffs return with the fiery “Resident Rock N Roller” that has Enman plunging into his higher vocal range, and doing it quite well I might add. On the edgy “Gypsy Heart”, Enman makes good use of panning between speakers and lights it up with some melodic guitar soloing and in the ballad “Love Undone”, the ‘80s is alive and well. More cool use of speaker separation is heard on the heavy riff-fest that is “So Hard”, an excellent album opening ‘80s style hard rocker.

This is an enjoyable melodic rock album, and I can only imagine what Enman could do with a bigger budget and a full band. Fow now, we will have to be satisfied with what is a solid solo project where Enman proves to be a true rock ‘n’ roller at heart. Folks, that is indeed a good thing.
