Life On Mars: Shadows In A Jar

Here is another disc that came out of the blue and has made quite an impact on yours truly. The band is Life On Mars, consisting of the duo Earl Kayoss (vocals, guitar) and Fernando Perdomo (all other instruments). You may recall Perdomo’s solo work or his collaborations with Dave Kerzner. I consider myself a big fan of his guitar playing, and he doesn’t disappoint. Their latest album is titled Shadows In A Jar, their sixth release to date.

If you are a fan of classic rock of yesteryear with a little glam thrown in for good measure, you would do well to give this album some love. It rocks right out of the gate with “Ego”, a mixture of ‘70s inspired classic rock and glam with Perdomo’s smoldering lead guitar work, foreshadowing what is in store for the rest of the album. “The Key” is another burner with thunderous drumming, soulful lead vocals, and searing lead guitar through the entire tune. Tasty lead guitar highlights the catchy “Stray Dog” while “After All” has a swamp rock vibe with its moody guitar work and slow burning solos. I hear some Lynyrd Skynyrd in this one. The gorgeous “Technology” changes it up with sumptuous strings and guest lead vocals by Ruti Celli. She has a very nice voice indeed. Another excellent track is “Rabbits” where Kayoss reminds a bit of Cat Stevens, and the soaring guitar offers another spine tingling moment.

It’s bands like Life On Mars that keep rock and roll alive and for that we should all be grateful. Maybe it’s not dead after all. Easily recommended for rock fans everywhere.

My Score:

Life On Mars: Shadows In A Jar is absolutely captivating! The idea of exploring Mars has always fascinated me, and this film just amplifies that excitement. I can't help but imagine myself being part of a mission to Mars, experiencing the thrill of discovery firsthand. The only downside is, I'd have to figure out how to bring my Vitamin D3 supplements along. I mean, I can't be risking a deficiency even on Mars, right? Who knew something so small could be such a big deal, even in space exploration!
