Captain Cougar: Bonnie

This one is a bit of a different beast to what I have been listening to lately. The band is Captain Cougar, hailing from Jyvaskyla, Finland and the album is titled Bonnie. This is rather difficult to pin down genre wise, but I suppose post rock/folk, with a progressive undertone would be a good place to start. It is a very gentle and introspective album so if you are looking for the more technical aspects of rock and metal you will need to look elsewhere. The music offers slow and subtle builds with the occasional heavier moment as in the more progressive leaning “Dancers� where buzzing electronics and a distorted guitar figure had me quite intrigued. Another highlight is “Sister�, the band channeling some cool electronics and effects with a beautiful multi-part harmony vocal. Some heavier post rock sounds form “Weightless, Loveless, Bloodless� highlighted by some nice solo guitar, while “Spaces� is a gentle ride carried by saddened lead vocals having a near hypnotizing effect.

Playing this album requires the right moment like chilling out, relaxing on a winter evening, letting go of the day and putting your mind at ease. For that, this will nicely do the trick.
