SilentLie: Equilibrium

Now we journey to Trieste, Italy with the modern gothic metal band SilentLie. The band formed in 2005 and released a couple early EPs before coming out with their debut album Layers Of Nothing in 2015. Seven years later the band released their sophomore effort titled Equilibrium. This is my first acquaintance with the band.

The songs do not vary a great deal from one to the next, but the band has made a consistently strong metal album with Equilibrium. The tunes are mostly built around Luigi Pressacco’s razor edged riffs and the strong and melodic vocals of Giorgia Sacco Taz. The dense walls of sound sometimes drown out the bass, but the band offers up one catchy melody after another, mostly in the mid to up tempo range. The disc opens with “Divided”, beginning with a bombastic intro and huge guitar rumblings before the modern metal riffage and soaring vocals take hold in the chorus. The lyrics are generally quite dark and at times personal, often delving into the choices we make, whether good or bad. Next is the blistering “On My Skin” where dense layers of guitar and keys are lightened by Taz’s laid back vocals. The chug fest “Something To Remember”, the distorted guitar in the heavy “Taste Of Solitude, and the darker “The One Who Disappears” highlighted by softer guitar arpeggios, are more solid tunes.

Although Equilibrium did not blow me away, it is an enjoyable gothic metal album worthy of repeated listens and should be a welcome addition to any modern metal music library.

A Rockshots Records release.
