Ritual King: The Infinite Mirror

From Manchester in the UK comes psychedelic/stoner rock act Ritual King, and their new album for Ripple Music, The Infinite Mirror. This power trio combines dark psychedelic with doom, blues, and the heavier spectrum of the grunge scene, notably Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, for a new album featuring just five lengthy tracks, but plenty of power. "Flow State" is terrific, as big meaty riffs collide with hypnotic vocals and loads of trippy atmosphere, while "Worlds Divide" stomps and bumps like vintage Soundgarden, but with a jammy sense that takes you back to that debut Black Sabbath album way back in 1970. There's the haunting, doomy "Landmass", the wild psych freakouts mixed with doom metal thunder of "Tethered", and the slow-building, trippy, almost desert rock of the nearly 10-minute title track.

The Infinite Mirror was my first experience with the might of Ritual King, and I'll likely dip back into their catalog for more while we wait for their next one.

Ritual King: The Infinite Mirror

My Score:

The mighty Ritual King is back with their sophomore album titled The Infinite Mirror, released in 2023. The Manchester, UK band formed back in 2016, their debut released four years later which I absolutely loved. You can check out my review on this site. Now I am here to inform you all this latest offering is at least as good, maybe even better than their first, which is indeed high praise.

The powerful sound this trio creates is really something to behold, all three members shine in their respective roles. Heavy bluesy psychedelic stoner rock music with liberal use of acoustic and electric guitar culminating in thunderous riff progressions, great drum work, and soaring lead vocals completely on point. As far as I can tell this band has no weaknesses.

The first track “Flow State” is an absolute epic. An acoustic guitar intro and background atmospherics sets the mood until huge fuzz drenched riffs offer up a massive sound. Soaring melodic vocals and a mind expansive guitar solo should have psychedelic fans frothing at the mouth. More celestial sounds can be heard on “Worlds Divide” where trippy soundscapes are inundated with thick guitar riffs and a fantastic guitar solo making for another psychedelic head trip. “Landmass” takes its time to build, the riffs starting lighter, easing into the groove before the intensity ramps up and a ripping lead guitar takes the song home. More stoner-psych is heard on the excellent “Tethered” where the band get into a trippy head melting jam before the album ends with the title cut, another delightfully moody slice of psychedelic guitar rock.

The Infinite Mirror is just an excellent example of stoner-psych without a dud in the bunch. I absolutely love this album!

A Ripple Music release.
