Suspiriorum: Suspiriorum

Suspiriorum was formed by bringing together a range of musicians from Austin Texas, and features Tim Driscoll on lead guitars (Runescarred, A Good Rogering), Suzy Colca on vocals (Witchcryer, Temple of Love), Steve Colca on rhythm guitars (Destroyer of Light, Temple of Love) and Joseph Maniscalco on bass and synth (Ex-Hinayana).

With influences that range from Horror Soundtracks to groups like Goblin, Blue Öyster Cult, Coven, and Opeth, there’s plenty to sit up and take notice before a single note is played.

Suspiriorum’s 3 track, self-titled EP is a quality retro occult rock release.

After a drawn-out horror movie sound bite, the opening track "Regina Di Sangue" kicks in with an absolutely fantastic opening motif. The chord progression is grand and majestic and the arrangement of the guitars and other instruments is great. I enjoy this track a lot which is led by Suzy Colca’s reverb-drenched vocals, which give the band an eerie edge to their sound which complements the overall aesthetic that they’re going with nicley.

"Mother Suspiriorum" starts with a more uptempo groove and finishes with unnerving reverb-drenched shrieks. "The Dark Knows" has more of a dessert rock groove to the main riff and some of the strongest vocal melodies out of the 3 tracks.

If Stoner/Doom/Psych/Occult Rock is of any interest to you, then I’d recommend checking out the band's EP. Being only 3 tracks long, it’s not a major investment in time, but I’m confident you’ll find something on there to enjoy.
