Bieniek, Chris: Monsteria

Just what I like, Bieniek wastes no time showcasing his guitar skills on the opening “Have You Met the Drones?”, and we are off to the races. The band lays down a nice groove as Bieniek sizzles over the top, and you do get a nice synth solo to compliment the guitar, and there is a shift at the end where it sounds like a completely different song, wow, that’s how you kick off an album. The further in I go to this album, the more impressed I get. If you want a little shredding, look no further than “Battle with the Bossa” where Bieniek absolutely smokes, man! Great licks, try out “All Bruised” which not only blazes, but then kicks back and allows for some tasty playing to take off. I like the feel of “Giant Sloths”, that shifty sneaky timing of the drums while the band lays it down underneath those wonderful guitar lines, and you get some ripping bass too. “Autumn Leaves in the Blue Grass” is a nice change of pace with the acoustic guitar, a lovely melody, and still will kick your butt. The quick “All the Dints In My Car” and the solo guitar of “All O Me” are strange and at the same time cool choices to end the disc.

There isn’t much sense going through this track by track, check out the guest musicians: Mohini Dey, Valeriy Stepanov just to name a few. What I can tell you is that this is upbeat guitar-heavy fusion, and it smokes. I am someone who has trouble with these digital-only releases as if it doesn’t sit on my shelf, I tend to forget about these with all the music that I listen to. I can promise you one thing, based on my numerous listens to Monsteria, it will not be forgotten! This is a must-have for guitar lovers!
