Iron Savior: Firestar
 In my review for 2019's Iron Savior opus Kill Or Get Killed I wrote the following opening paragraph and lazily repeat it here because not much has changed for myself nor indeed in the world of Hamburg's finest.
“I might have mentioned previously that I really dig Iron Savior. They just really float my boat and probably have for the best part of twenty (now nearly a quarter of a century.) I've never bothered to get to grips with the underlying concepts behind much of their output because in the main I want what the Savior deliver so very well, namely gargantuan riffs, face melting solos, drums that sound like your house falling down around you and top quality singalong choruses. “
I'm pleased to say that in 2023 everything remains shipshape in the world of Iron Savior. Piet Sielck remains fully in charge in every way ably assisted by long term sideman Joachim “Piesel” Küstner on guitars, bassist Jan S. (the S is important) Eckert and drums courtesy of Patrick Klose. Together they kick all forms of metal arse from beginning to end. Unusually, very unusually in fact, I'd argue that the final track "Together as One" might be the album's crowning achievement as it's so good. It's not very original but as like everything that band has done, it's done with utter commitment to metal.
Is there a daft song about heavy metal I hear you ask? Of course there is. Have a look at the titles below and see if you can guess which it is then listen to it and let its ridiculously catchy tune burrow into your mind and soul. Are there songs with an Atlantis theme? Dur�"there certainly are. Is "Mask, Cloak and Sword" the most fun metal song of the year not made by Freedom Call? Yes it is? Do I sound like I'm asking myself rhetorical questions on BBC News? Yes I do. Do I recommend Firestar? Absolutely.

Iron Savior: Firestar

I was going to start this review off by stating that Germany's power metal veterans have been pretty consistent on their last few releases, but truth be told, this band has made a career out of cranking out one winner after another, and that continues here with their latest AFM Records platter, Firestar. Yes, Firestar is stacked with all the expected heavy metal tropes and cliches, but with bangers like "Curse of the Machinery", "Through the Fires of Hell", the crushing "Demise of the Tyrant", and my personal favorite "Rising From Ashes", it's hard not to soak this one in and bang thy head often, and furiously. While a cover of Judas Priest's "Heading Out to the Highway" is fun, I'd rather have another fine original song from this band that keeps on delivering one fun power metal platter after another. Bone-crunching guitars, manic drums, soaring vocals, and anthemic choruses at every corner...this one comes highly recommended!
