Until the Sun: A Night at the Rhythm Room

Here is another nice new find in the form of Phoenix, Arizona based Until The Sun, a blues rock band with three albums to their credit:

Blackheart (2019)
Drowning In Blue (2021)
A Night at the Rhythm Room
(2022)

The band mixes blues and rock into a highly delightful concoction led by the great lead vocals of Alyssa Swartz and scintillating guitar from Bandon Teskey. The album was recorded and mixed by Larry Elyea at Mind’s Eye Studio in Glendale, Arizona. And I have to say the album sounds clear and robust, every instrument coming through crisp and clean.

The first track “Battle Cry” is what this band is all about with its smoky lead vocals with great range and scorching lead guitar, whether going for a slow burn or a more blistering pace. With “The 4th Turning” a restrained guitar intro, more introspective in scope, leads into heavier riffs and a chugging groove. The psychedelic tinged guitar solo is quite spectacular. The old school blues of “Hell Of A Thing” is highlighted by Alyssa’s passioned vocal delivery and on “Burning Home”, Teskey’s lead guitar smoulders through the entire tune.

A couple of covers include Etta James’ “At Last” and Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”. The former features a more restrained vocal, meaty riffs, and an atmospheric guitar break while the latter is stamped with Teskey’s imaginative guitar soloing and solid riffs. Overall, both nice renditions.

A Night at the Rhythm Room is a solid take on blues rock and is an album I enjoyed listening to multiple times. That is the sign of a very good album and as such is easily recommended.
