Dozer: Drifting In The Endless Void

Again, Sweden has produced some great music, this time in the form of the stoner rock foursome Dozer and their sixth album titled Drifting In The Endless Void, the follow up to their 2008 release Beyond Colossal. This has been another new experience for me, and what makes this even more special is the comeback nature of this release. Now, since I was unfamiliar with their previous output, I cannot comment how this compares to past efforts. What I can say is this is another fantastic doom album from 2022.

If you are searching for a stellar groove just have a listen to the first track “Mutation/Transformation”. Creative drum fills, brief stop/starts, liberal use of distortion, and powerfully expressive lead vocals add up to a fantastic start to the album. “Ex-Human/Now Beast” features strong, melodic lead vocals and psychedelic nuanced guitar that erupts with ferocious intensity. Vocalist Fredrik Nordin shows his considerable versatility on the catchy stoner rock of “Dust For Blood”, where his vocals take on a higher register and quieter interludes makes for interesting song dynamics. The lead guitarist plays a huge role here, as he does through much of the album. His muted guitar riffs mark the beginning of “Andromeda” where elements of space rock are added to the mix. This band is far from one dimensional, truly creative song structures abound. The killer riff in the relentless rocker “Run, Mortals, Run!”, is another powerful statement.

Bottom line - doom metal/rock fans need to hear this album as soon as possible. It is that good!

My Score:

while "Breathing Space" by Hackberry possesses many elements that typically appeal to you, such as instrumental complexity and lengthy tracks, you found the execution fnaf to be lacking in cohesion and conciseness.
