SRT: Vanguards of Groove

SRT is a power trio made up of studio session players James “JR� Robinson (drums), Mitch Towne (Organist) and Andrew Synowiec (guitar) who create a fiery blend of Jazz, R&B, sprinkled with plenty of funk to keep you moving. These guys have played / recorded with top notch artists such as Michael Jackson, Elton John, Rufus & Chaka Khan to name a few, but here they get to let their playing shine on 10 instrumental tracks. They come out of the gate smoking with lots of guitar and organ soloing, you get the rocking “Tal Shia� that’s loaded up with guitar and groove. “Burn That Bridge� leads off with a funky guitar motif, and allows that bluesy organ to get its licks in over the top. “Long Road� pulls in the reigns, taking a slower pace but allowing both soloists to shine with some tasteful licks, and that thick gorgeous organ tone just lying over the top.

“Goin’ Uptown� has a classic bluesy vibe, with driving drums and gorgeous organ and clean guitar tones. This is a really fun enjoyable listen; I can imagine listening to these guys jamming in some small club in New York City. The interplay between the guitar and organ in this format is something you don’t hear often these days, but it works so well. “Memory Lane� fires things up with more great interplay, and some ripping solos and they really ramp things up to close out the track. I think “Liquid Office� contains my favorite soloing from Synowiec, but as I’ve stated, there is plenty of guitar to satisfy in this format.

This one had immediacy to it, not something you need multiple listens before it grabs you. The US release date is set for September 8th 2023 and will be available on Jewel Records. Go grab this one if you love this combination of instruments and stellar musicianship.
