Serrato, Greg: Live At The Coach House

Greg Serrato, known as The Tornado, is a blues guitarist in the vein of Johnny Winter and Sonny Rhodes. His all-out style was captured during his 2005 appearance at The Coach House. Live At The Coach House contains eight originals and six covers all in the Texas-Blues style made famous by Stevie Ray. He is backed on the CD by drummer Alan Carter and Phil Fistori on Bass. Robb Howell comes on stage to play 2nd lead during the cover of "Voodoo Child".

This isn't going to set any new directions in blues, but if you like solid, funky, blues groves, Greg Serrato has all the hooks down. "Like a Tornado" contains some speed blues licks that are a little muffled at times, but overall is one of the highlights of the CD. Another is the rollicking "Holy Smoke". The best cover tune is the remake of "Before You Accuse Me", which is played in the style that Clapton used.

Live At The Coach House is a worthy addition to anyone's blues collection. Greg Serrato is traveling ground that has been seen many times before and it is sometimes difficult to leave your mark on such well worn territory, but The Tornado manages to stir the dust enough to create his own path.

Serrato, Greg: Live At The Coach House

My Score:

I agree with the previous entry. This cd really is something special. Although most everything has been done on blues guitar, Greg really adds some great licks and the songs are well done.
You have to appreciate the playing on this cd. He exhibits some serious guitar playing on Holy Smokes and there is nothing lacking here. All Along The Watch Tower is phenominal. I heard a ton of guitarists try this song, but I've never heard anyone come this close to Hendrix's version. It shows there are other guitar players, not so famous, that have a real talent on the guitar. Greg is keeping the fire burning! After purchasing this cd, I have to give it the highest rating and I highly recommend this cd. Well done Mr. Serrato!! I want to add, this site is happening! Keep up the good work!

My Score:

An EXCELLENT Live Blues CD. Greg Serrato is by far one of the top blues guitar players around. Amazingly quick, distinct, blues with a unique style of his own. An ABSOLUTE must see or the next best thing is to get one of his "LIve" CDs. You will be hooked on this mans grace and speed. You can see the blues were and are a major part of his being.
