High Desert Queen: Secrets Of The Black Moon

High Desert Queen is a stoner/doom rock band hailing from Austin, Texas, having formed in 2019. They released their debut album titled Secrets Of The Black Moon in 2022. In the band are:

Matt Metzger (bass)
Phil Hook (drums)
Rusty Miller (guitar)
Ryan Garney (vocals)

The band play melodic, fuzzed out rock highlighted by outstanding clean lead vocals and excellent guitar work in the form of heavy slabs of riffs and burning leads. The first track “Heads Will Role” is a fine example of what this band is capable of. The heavy riffs lead into an almost ethereal and calm interlude before the music heats up again. The band shows some psychedelic influences as the song draws to a close. A huge drum and bass sound comes through in the catchy “The Mountain Vs The Quake” complete with smouldering lead guitar and edgy riffs. The varied vocals, love the distorted effects, and some nice atmospherics keep the interest level high. The riffs in “As We Roam” hit like heavy slabs of concrete and the lead guitar sets the soundscape on fire with some head turning fretwork. The super catchy and energetic “Did She?” will be sure to satisfy any self-respecting rock fan and on “The Rise”, an atmospheric beginning with Middle Eastern undertones and disparate guitar soon erupts with a vengeance as the doom-laden riffs and soaring and powerful vocals up the intensity. The slow burning guitar work is an album highlight.

High Desert Queen has released a stellar album with Secrets Of The Black Moon. Powerful, mystical, melodic, and completely addictive, this band has a great future in front of them. I urge everyone to do your ears a favour and check it out!

A Ripple Music release.
