Sun Crow: Quest For Oblivion

Another relatively new band has got my attention big time. Sun Crow hail from Seattle and released their debut album titled Quest For Oblivion in 2021. This is pure doom metal, raw and visceral, yet refined as well, the vocals and riffs matched to perfection and the grooves deep and robust.

In the band are:
Charles Wilson (vocals)
Ben Nechanicky (guitars)
Brian Steel (bass)
Keith Hastreiter (drums)

This is some heavy stuff folks and talk about powerful riffs. Bone shattering, paint peeling, or just relentlessly heavy, the grooves and guitar will etch into your consciousness, and it just might take a crowbar to ply them loose. This stuff sticks and that is one of the main reasons why this is such an appealing album. The guitar and vocals are a near perfect fit, whether the feedback and reverb are pushed to the limit and the vocals, both cleans and screams are fighting for air, distant and echoing through the desolate and bleak soundscapes. The lyrics add to the mystique, searching for meaning and clarity while the listener is lost in the heaviness of it all. The songs take their time to evolve and with four over the ten-minute mark the band is able to settle into some great grooves and jammy guitar exploits. There are eight tracks and every one of them is outstanding.

So, there you have it. Sun Crow is another great doom metal band that should be turning heads with Quest For Oblivion.
