B Gera: Universal Revolution Part II

Italian instrumental heavy rock and heavy metal project B-Gera presents Part II of their rock opera Universal Revolution, a three-part concept output about Aliens coming to earth, their interaction with humans, and the relationship of humas with rest of the Universe. The Rock Alchemist’s guitarist Beppe Geracitano is the main guy in this trio, strongly complemented by Raoul Ronco (also from TRA) on bass and groove master B.J. Zampa on drums.

Personally, I’m not a huge all-instrumental music fan because I love vocals and lyrics, and what they transmit in support to the musical aspect of the record… however, if the music contains enough catchy melodies and hooks, if there is at least some virtuosity in the instrumentation, and if the result feels cohesive and perennial, then I’m all in… and that’s the case with B-Gera… so if we add to the already appealing recipe some great production and a beloved concept, then I can say that we are in front of a winner.

In Part I we had three tracks that narrated the landing of the Aliens on earth (Coming Back), the humans hiding underground to defend themselves (The Great Wall), and how they (the humans) tried to send a cry for help and peace message to space through music (Universal Blues). Part II opens with the heavy “Fighting the Madness”, a track where Beppe creates a guitar-led dialogue backed by heavy and compressed sounding riffs, depicting the craziness of the battle taking place on earth’s surface between humans and invaders, I assume… at least that’s what I get from the music. “Wormhole Suite” is a fast neoclassical metal track, more shred-driven but very emotional at the same time, a very melodic tune where the non-complex rhythmic section perfectly adheres to the multiple guitar layers. As in Part I, the Part II EP (or single) closes with a mini epic, which in both cases is my favorite track of each output; middle-eastern influences guitar licks are the main attraction in “Up to the Sky”, leading the hypnotic melodies throughout the 5 plus minutes track, entering a musical crescendo that almost feels like a victory, like if, at least for now, humans have defeated the intruders and watch in relief how their departure from earth… and that’s me assuming again… most likely the band will clarify this information upon the official release. The power trio sound tight, ambitious, and focused, and honestly, I can’t wait to listen to the next and final act Part III, and anything that we might get from them in the future… until then, enjoy this short but very solid piece of work. Cheers
