Matthews, Krissy: Monster In Me

Krissy Matthews is a British singer/songwriter/guitarist who has been a professional musician since the age of fourteen when he signed his first record deal. He has released around five albums thus far and he is also a member of the Hamburg Blues Band. At a young age he has played with am impressive array of artists like Maggie Bell, Arthur Brown, and Chris Farlowe. In my hands is his fourth album titled Monster In Me, released in 2019. He has since released Pizza Man Blues in 2021.

Matthews’ music hits elements of the blues, modern rock, and southern rock. His guitar playing is excellent throughout the disc beginning with the bluesy rocker “Level With The Devil�. A catchy chorus, solid riffs, and some fine axe slinging make this an excellent opening tune. “Gotta Stay, Gotta Leave� is highlighted by a scorching guitar solo and with “Strange Ways� Matthews channels some southern rock flair and does a great job mixing smooth sounds with harder edged rock. On “Is This The Love I Think It Is?� strikes a chord with its rawer blues sound, contrasting nicely with “Long Haul Flight�, the disc’s catchiest tune with its memorable chorus and pop rock ethos.

Krissy Matthews is a fine singer, writer, and musician, and Monster In Me showcases Matthews’ talent with ten good tracks that should appeal to guitar and rock fans with equal measure.
