Neybas: Sunshine Hotel

Neybas is a melodic rock/pop band from Connecticut who have been plying their trade in the northeast for years and have released four albums thus far, including their most recent titled Sunshine Hotel in 2022. This is my first experience with the band, so I came into this one with a clean slate. This isn’t at all complicated, just feel good grooves all around with infectious melodies and pleasing lead vocals. The band has a smooth almost California sound, all very easy on the ears.

There are fourteen tracks spread over forty-six minutes, and it goes by pretty fast, with no individual song overstaying its welcome. Short and sweet and to the point.

The album begins with the catchy, near bluesy “At The Sunshine Hotel�, a nice mid tempo groove, hook laden lead vocals, and tasty pedal steel guitar. On “Something About Her�, the irresistible chorus, hooky guitar fills, and funky bass, will have you wanting the dance floor. Another super catchy tune. The upbeat “Hey Cinderella� is another uplifting tune, before “Aliens Have Taken My Brain� eases off the gas with an easy flowing groove and smooth sounds. “The Doorman� has just a hint of country twang and a positive message we should all live by, never taking life for granted and being thankful for what you’ve got. Nothing deep here lyrically, but very meaningful just the same. With “Sunshine Girl� the band crank up the tempo and beachy vibe and in “A Little 2 Hi� the band get their reggae groove on.

Nothing pretentious here, just well played melodic rock and pop that will put a little sunshine in your life. And in this day and age sometimes that is more than enough.
