Green Sky Accident: Daytime TV

Bergen, Norway has been a hotbed of progressive rock for years now, home of many bands on the Apollon Records label. In 2022 the label signed Green Sky Accident, a band who has been around for years, releasing their debut in 2010. With the signing, it should give more exposure to the band’s fourth album titled Daytime TV.

Now I would not necessarily call Green Sky Accident a progressive rock band, they play music more in line with art rock, post rock, or even indie rock. Every song is catchy, as the band believe every piece of music should have a certain melodic sensibility etched into the arrangement.

Beginning with the catchy “Faded Memories”, the band’s melodic post rock sound, with inflections of dream pop, is established. The complex drumming gives the music a slight proggy feel. The guitar has a bigger tone in the slightly heavier “In Vain”. Distorted, jangly guitars and the sublime vocals highlight the excellent “Point Of No Return”, and in “Insert Coin” the earworm melodies from the guitar and vocals are just as noteworthy. The melodic “Screams At Night” has a big, bold sound that absolutely soars, and with “Finding Failure” the band has created one of the catchiest songs on the disc. Their chiming guitar sound is really something quite special.

For an artful pop-rock album, it will be hard to top Green Sky Accident’s Daytime TV. As infectious a listen as anything I have heard in a long time. Recommended!
