Early Moods are a five-piece doom act from Los Angeles, California, and this is their debut full length release. The band is comprised of:
Eddie Andrade: Guitar
Elix Feliciano: Bass
Oscar Hernandez: Guitar
Alberto Alcaraz: Vocals
Chris Flores: Drums
The album contains nine tracks, all of which are heavily influenced by early Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Candlemass, Trouble, Witchfinder General, and Cathedral, filled with big, crushing guitar riffs, pounding drums, and a vintage vibe. Singer Alberto Alcaraz has a style that fits the music perfectly, though I'd argue he's a tad low in the mix here (my really only quibble about this album), but I guess if you love doom, it's all about the riffs anyway, and there's no shortage of them on bangers such as "Funeral Macabre", "Last Rites", "Return to Salem's Gate", and the outstanding "Live to Suffer". As you can see, the guys go for more darker lyrical themes, which is welcome for stuff like this, and I find myself headbanging along and getting out the air guitar every time this album plays. Sure, a few musical themes here and there that make you stop and say 'hey, isn't that little lick from Sabbath?', but as a doom fan, this is highly enjoyable and MIGHTY heavy, so I'm eagerly awaiting what these five Hispanic metal heads come up with next. One of 2022's doom gems that I'm sure very few people heard.
