We Broke the Weather: We Broke the Weather

Frenetic, Intense, bits of jazzy horns, spacey keys, and some heavier prog infused excursions open up the debut release from Somersville, Massachusetts based We Broke The Weather. I do pick up a Thank You Scientist vibe in the vocals. The band has a modern approach, so even with some prog influences, I won’t say their sound is something you would immediately label as proggy. “Rot King” is catchy, and there were moments where I thought this was going to go somewhere dark, I would have loved for the ending to have gone on an instrumental path based. I latched onto the darker feel of “Fire Season”, here they stretch out more, using noisy guitars to get the point across. “Bellwether” brings an in your face, noisy, instrumental attack, and the vocal sections have an entirely different feel from the instrumental breaks. “In Web” has a sequenced keyboard with a distant and again jazz influenc e horn. “The Fog” opens with a Crimson like horn leading the way, and falls into that more modern approach. I am torn as I enjoy where this band is trying to explore instrumentally, but with the heavy use of vocals, the instrumental side doesn’t seem to be the bands priority.
