New Jersey's Agents of Man has here on their sophomore release Count Your Blessings a fairly solid modern metal album. What's surprising is that the CD seems a strange fit for their label Century Media. The band plays a pretty accessible brand of metal-core and nu-metal sounds, which clashes a bit with the roster of mainly death, prog-metal, and thrash bands who make up the majority of the Century Media family. While Agents of Man occasionally venture into Killswitch Engage-like ferocity, there's mainly catchy melodies and sing-along anthems here, courtesy of lead vocalist George M., who delivers a boatload of strong clean vocals throughout this CD. On the few instances where he lets it rip with hardcore intensity, like on "Repurcussion" or the raging title track, the band comes across like Brooklyn's Candiria, complete with crunchy guitars and thick grooves. However, too much of the CD seems watered down and lacking in originality, as the band tends to sound like every other group out there battling for for a spot on alternative radio and MTV's Headbangers Ball.
