Kane, Chez: Powerzone

Another melodic pop-rock release from Chez Kane. With just Chez and Danny Rexon playing on the entire album, it is pretty impressive what sounds just two people can achieve musically. However, that doesn’t come without any downsides.

For me the album suffers from repetitiveness. Nearly all the songs have the same lyrical topics and fail to offer a fresh take on common song and lyrical subjects/content. Most of the songs sound similar in their production and musician direction. A majority of the lyrics are very cliche and basic and struggled to keep me intrigued or engaged for a large chunk of the record.

I think Chez is a capable musician and vocalist, I just feel she would benefit from having a different trajectory in her song structures and musical direction. The album feels like something we have all heard before. I also feel that the featured instrumentalist Danny Rexon, who is obviously a very accomplished musician, would benefit greatly with other musical endeavors as I feel this doesn’t fit his style and doesn’t unveil his potential musically.

As a whole this is a decent record that may please average music listeners, but I feel anyone looking for a more in-depth and fresh musical experience will be disappointed.
