Motorhead: Iron Fist - Special 40th Anniversary Edition

Iron Fist by Motörhead is a classic in many respects. It had the unenviable task of being the follow up to their magnum opus Ace of Spades, and history looks back on it as the last of the run of albums to include the classic 3 piece line-up; Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clarke and Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor. It’s a fast paced, hard rocking release full of the sort of music which I associate with good times and party vibes.

As is the case with most classic era albums by well-known bands, there isn’t a lot left to say about the album. Whilst it doesn’t get the plaudits that their top tier releases get, it’s pleasing to see it receive the 40th anniversary treatment with a variety of deluxe editions on offer - the download review stream which I’ve been given includes the original album, demos form 1981, Bonus tracks and a live set from Glasgow Apollo.

As is the case with most anniversary editions, I’d suggest this package is one for the die-hard Motorhead Fans first and foremost. However, if you need to add Iron Fist to your collection, you could do far worse than getting yourself a copy of this edition " there’s hours of content on offer and the presentation of the CD and Vinyl options looks fantastic.

It had been a while since I had spent some time with the album and I must say I still find it to be a really fun release, although it’s not a perfect album from top to bottom. The demo material and bonus content is interesting and the live recording is a great piece of the bands history however in both cases it’s the sort of stuff which is interesting to listen to once or twice, but wont get the sort of repeat listens that the main album track listing will.

A worthy celebration.
