Tusmørke: Intetnett

Intetnett is the 9th studio album by psychedelic and progressive folk Norwegian band Tusmørke. For this album the lineup is comprised of Benedikt Momrak on bass and vocals, Kristoffer Momrak on flute and vocals, Haugebonden Gullstein on keyboards, Åsa Ree on violin, Martin Nordrum on drums and percussion, and some members from the bands Wobbler (symphonic retro-prog) and Alwanzatar (crossover and psychedelic prog).

I became aware of this band with their 2021 release Nordisk Krim, an album sang mostly in English and that I quite liked. Intetnett is a different beast in every sense, is lighter and more folky, solely sang in Norwegian and is intended for children… or is it?

After some digging and reading it appears this is not their first children’s record, but definitely the most experimental, supposedly telling the story about two evil scientists who plant a self-teaching computer system on an unsuspecting school… well, it is in fact a creepy concept per se, and even though it is easy to tell what songs are outworked classic lullabies and which were written by the band, the darkness and evilness is well perceived throughout the whole journey… despite the multiple instances where various kids voices can be heard backing the lead vocalist. A very difficult album to review and rate, for obvious reasons. However, there are a bunch of highlights that will delight the listener and make the album enjoyable, like the eventual flute and violins that can be heard here and there, all kinds of keys including the mighty mellotron, the flawless jazzy drumming, the beautiful rhythmic bass, and all those ingredients well needed for the perfect recipe. It’s a shame I can’t get anything out from the lyrics, it would round up my experience.
