"100% live – 100% improvised "
The music contained on this disc is just that as it was taken from a show at B.B. King's in New York as well as a show at The Fox Theater in Boulder CO. Zilla is a quartet which creates a wall of sound anchored by the repetitive, at times droning, beat. The band then enhances the beat with a variety of instruments, most of which are percussive. The results are a genre which is situated somewhere between New Age music and rave music. A couple of tracks have a slight Caribbean feel to them while others seem more influenced by Eastern music. All the tracks flow into each other to create a musical stream of consciousness. Nothing really jumps out at the listener as the music seems all on the surface and doesn't have any real depth to it. I don't find that the musicians convey any emotions in their playing and the music left me feeling indifferent. I guess if you're there live and tripping on Ecstasy , you might get a kick out of these guys, but I just found sitting through this disc to be an adventure in patience. I can appreciate what these guys are trying to accomplish here, but this stuff just doesn't float my boat.
