Wo Fat: The Singularity

That other little power trio from Texas, Wo Fat, has recently released their new platter of psychedelic doom & stoner sounds, titled The Singularity, containing seven new tracks of pure muscle and attitude. The band is comprised of Kent Stump (guitar, vocals), Michael Walter (drums), and Zack Busby (bass), and these three conjure up some seriously heavy and groove-a-licious tunage throughout The Singlularity. If you are at all familiar with Wo Fat, expect fairly long songs, loads of brontosaurus riffing, psychedelic/acid rock guitar solos, and a thunderous bottom end. While Kent's vocals aren't always the focal point of the songs, they are decent enough and fit this style of music perfectly, adding that Southern flair to heavy hitters like "Orphans of the Singe," "The Snows of Banquo IV," and the absolutely crushing "The Witching Chamber." Images of Black Sabbath, Sleep, Crowbar, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, and Blue Cheer pop up from time to time, but these love to jam big time (think Earthless with heavier riffs and perhaps not as much soloing), so if it's mountainous guitar riffs and screaming psych-tinged solos, you've come to the right place.

Honestly, not a bad song to be found here, and check out the two massive closing tracks, "The Singularity" and "The Oracle," to hear the band at their psychedelic best, these tracks dripping with fuzz and thunderous rhythms, plus plenty of atmospheres, especially on the latter. Great stuff all around here; once again, Wo Fat has knocked it out of the park with another gem for all those who love the riff.
