Steak: Acute Mania

Thanks to our good friends at Ripple Music, here is another great band to blow your mind. The band is called Steak (for all you meat lovers out there how can you not like the name) and formed in London, England in 2010. Two years later the band released an EP titled Disastronaught, followed by their full-length debut Slab City (2014) on Napalm Records. This leads us to their 2022 release Acute Mania. The disc contains forty-seven minutes of music spread over eight tracks beginning with “Wolves”, a superb slab of light and heavy sounds. The distorted guitar riffs are like ear candy and the lead vocals of Kippa are as good as I have heard in a long time. His voice is smooth and melodic and with just the right amount of emotive inflection. Then comes “Dead Meat” with its distorted vocals and edgy guitar riffs. It is an excellent track with cool shifts in tempo and some wild fretwork. On “Ancestors” the band infuse tasty acoustic guitar with more hard rock rhythms making for some heady dynamics. On “Last Days” the sounds are mellower and slightly serene, going for a more relaxed sound. The heavier hard rock of “Frequencies” and the album ending “Mono”, that has the band injecting some fiery blues into their classic hard rock sounds, are two more stand-out tracks.

Steak have made an excellent album with Acute Mania. I urge anyone into stoner and classic hard rock to give this a spin. Absolutely recommended.
