Days Of Wine: Days Of Wine

Days of Wine, a recently formed hard rock/melodic rock band from Norway bring us their self-titled album debut, released in May 2022 through the Pride & Joy Music label. The Lineup consists of Leif Digernes on vocals (Westpoint, Bronx); Leif Johansen on bass, keyboards and vocals (A-ha, 21 Guns); Geir Digernes on drums and percussion (Sons of Angels); Tom Sennerud on guitars and vocals (Stoneflower) and Jon Johannessen on guitars (Stoneflower), all musicians already veterans on the Norwegian rock scene on their own. The band lists some heavy players when referring to their influences such a Deep Purple, Toto, Led Zeppelin, Pat Travers and even some Zappa (I also hear some Whitesnake), and what they deliver here is pure melodic (almost 80’s sounding) catchy heavy rock.

The formula is simple as well as the lyrical content, song crafting made for the masses, perhaps a little out of time or dated for that, but this is music that will appeal to both young and not so young rock music lovers. Digerne’s vocals sound very familiar (maybe a little Coverdale there perhaps…) and crystal clear, both guitarists are really good and the veteran rhythmic duo Johansen-Digernes (the other Digernes) is as solid as expected. So the result is a good debut, full of hooks and catchy melodies and even though I enjoy most of it, the real highlights for me are the rocker opener “Seven Days”, the title track and album closer “Days of Wine”, the more modern sounding “Spread your Wings”, the hopeful “Never Stop Believing” and the first single and music video “My Last Kiss”, but every other song on the album has something to grab yourself to, it can either be a great guitar solo, a retro sounding keyboard, or a 90’s grunge-like vibe at times like the beautiful “Angels in Disguise” or the martyry “Spread Your Wings”. An album that grows with every new listen, a more than enjoyable experience and definitely a keeper… talking about that… let’s keep an eye on them.
