The Strange Seeds: Plant

The bands website has the mantra `Peace, Love and Groove, well I can most certainly buy into that with the way the world is right now!!

These guys are an Acid, Psychedelic, Hard Rock inspired band who take most, if not all of their musical inspirations from the 60`s and 70`s, again something I can buy into. `Plant` is the debut album from this German based band, and a good one it is too.

`Have You Ever` opens with a Hammond B3 flourish which grabbed my attention straight away and the song develops into a hefty slice of 60`s inspired Psych Rock. `Today, Tomorrow` takes it down a few notches and offers up a smooth Guitar/Organ dominated slow burner that works a treat. `Tales Of Blind Coffee Bread Joe` gives the first opportunity for the guitar to come to the fore and is a real bruiser with a groove that got my sexagenarian feet a tappin`.

`Plant` is an up tempo number, with a slightly more `Poppy` feel to it, which is ultimately effective in conjuring up images of times gone by, again helped in no small measure by the 60`s sounding Keyboards. `Valley Of My Mind` hints at the likes of Deep Purple with its quite instinctive riff that carries the song throughout before `Backcountry Exile` takes a surprising turn with a funkiness that surprised me rather, but it works perfectly.

The final two songs `Time Will Tell` and `Gardens Of Marrakesh` really do encapsulate what The Strange Seeds are all about, the former being an uplifting number soaked in the Psych/Acid Rock of times gone by and the latter that starts with a Hendrix like meander before the Hammond Organ joins in to make the song a joyous trip back to times that the band so evidently want to be back in. This is an album that really does capture the spirit of the late 60`s/early 70`s without coming as across as being contrived, and is worthy of your attention if Acid/Psych Rock is your bag...man.
