A Serbian rock band, who last year rather strangely introduced themselves to the rock community with cover versions of songs from Europe, Nightwish and ABBA...go figure eh. To be fair all three tracks demonstrate that the band are adept at tackling different musical styles and with the duel female vocals the band have at their disposal, to my ears it’s the ABBA track that works the best.
But we`re here to look at the bands full debut album which has appeared on the Frontiers label. The main selling point for the band is without doubt the twin female vocals of Ana Nikolic and Nevena Brankovic who are both blessed with fine voices that compliment each other very well indeed.
But unfortunately that’s where the good news ends really as the material on offer here doesn’t really amount to much as I fear the hand of Alessandro Del Vecchio has had a fair amount of input into how the album sounds.
It is, on the surface a very glossy, big and dramatic Melodic/Hard Rock production but again with a lot of Frontiers releases recently just ends up sounding rather all one dimensional. `Never Say Never` certainly sets down a marker, and `Sensational` and `Rebel Lady` are both enjoyable Pop/Rock romps but beyond that I’m hard pressed to think of anything that really sticks in the mind. The keyboards do help in some instances to give the songs some added texture but not really anywhere near enough to make any sizable difference.
A missed opportunity I fear. The ladies vocals are excellent and would be better served with stronger material for them to show off what they really have to offer...ah well.
