Trigger Mafia: The Brotherhood

Here is a band that completely caught me off guard. Trigger Mafia is A Canadian hard rock band and although they had recently released their debut album The Brotherhood in October, 2021, these guys have been around for a while, in other projects or as session musicians.

The band cites influences like Coney Hatch, Triumph, and Rush and I will say there is definitely a ‘70s/’80s slant to their fiery brand of rock and roll. The band is not trying to be particularly innovative here, just grooving melodic hard rock beginning with the first track “Find A Better Way”. A catchy chorus and sweet Hammond and guitar, this one rocks right out of the gate. More blistering Hammond can be heard on the excellent “Open Road”, another balls to the wall rocker. This is not rocket science folks, just good rocking fun like the catchy and anthemic “Sitting On A Corner” and on “Drink What You Drink And Roll What You Roll” it’s a raucous good time as the Hammond explodes and they even throw in a snippet of Rush. The instrumental “Great Big Genius” showcases excellent synth work and in “Devil Woman” the band stay true to their classic rock roots brandishing some fiery Hammond and guitar.

The Brotherhood is an impressive debut and for those who long for the good ole days when rock was king, this is certainly a band to watch for. Recommended.
