Box: Cherry Blossoms at Night

Box Cherry Blossoms at Night is an album of various genres and kicks off with "Succumb", which is extremely heavy, basically thrash metal, and it doesn’t really do anything for me, but if you like thrash it will definitely rock your boat. The second track "Pulse" is different, yes it’s heavy but has a lovely riff all the way through. The third song "Soft is the Motion" is a slow melodic heavy track with some excellent vocals and some lovely guitar work. This is followed by "Cherry Blossoms at Night", which starts of very reminiscent of the German synth group Tangerine Dream and I just love this track as it builds and builds, the keyboards on this are lovely and the vocals are brilliant, I can’t get this one out of my head. The fifth track "Lifetaker" is synth laden track and extremely catchy and proggy, and it reminds me of Eloy. The sixth song "Devayne’s Lament" is a beautiful track with a lovely melody and I keep humming it, it has nice guitar on it and it’s the best piece on the album. The next one "Spread" is again a synthy number and starts off with nice keyboards, not so keen on the vocals but it kind of works. Finally, you have "Liberate", which has beautiful vocals on it and is a really catchy song and is a bit poppy in places but it works.

Overall a very good album and as it grows on me it gets better. I would recommend you give this album a good few listens as I find that it surprises on every listen. The album is to be released on the 29th of July.
